- LIGHT OPERA WORKS is a professional theatre in Evanston, Illinois, founded in 1980. The company produces American operetta and music theater on two stages. The Main Stage features full productions with orchestra, large casts and elaborate sets for American works like Victor Herbert’s SWEETHEATS, European operetta like Lehar’s THE MERRY WIDOW, Gilbert and Sullivan, classic American musicals like MY FAIR LADY, KISS ME, KATE, and THE MUSIC MAN as well as newer works like RAGTIMEand 110 IN THE SHADE. On the smaller Second Stage the company stages new works and revues like the Jefferson Award-nominated SIDE BY SIDE BY SONDHEIM, and significant revivals like the upcoming I DO, I DO! Furthermore, the company has made a name for itself with outstanding and innovative productions of hard-to-categorize crossover works like KISMET, CANDIDE, THE GOLDEN APPLE, and LADY IN THE DARK.
